Description: Rowton Castle HotelNestled in the heart of the Shropshire countryside, and surrounded by 17 acres of gardens, Rowton Castle Hotel is set in a Grade II listed mansion, built in its present form in the 17th century, but with a history stretching back to 1234. After a number of uses and changes of ownership, the hotel was converted into a hotel by its present owners, and now offers luxurious accommodation and extensive wedding and conference facilities in a delightful historic setting.Steeped in history, sumptuously decorated, and with a unique romantic charm, Rowton Castle Hotel is a beautiful spot for romantic escapes, weekend breaks or simply exploring the Shropshire countryside, just twenty minutes from the centre of historic Shrewsbury. The perfect backdrop for any wedding, the castle boasts charming English gardens, along with impeccable service and exquisite food. Exclusive bookings are of course an option. An ideal setting for business events, Rowton Castle offers facilities for day conferences, residential conferences and corporate team building events, with anything from two to 80 delegates. Activities available on-site or close by the hotel can include archery, go-karting, falconry, Murder Mystery Dinners, and Casino Evenings, among many other options. Type of rooms: Rowton Castle HotelClassic Bedrooms:All Classic Bedrooms are located on the second floor of the castle, and are beautifully appointed. The most noticeable difference being the loss of "Grand Ceiling Height" enjoyed on the first floor. Within the mix of standard rooms there are four double bedrooms, three family bedrooms, one twin bedded room and one single bedded room. Each of the family rooms consists of a double bed and a single bed, with space for locating a "Z Bed" or cot if necessary. Most of the bedrooms on the second floor enjoy excellent views of the castle grounds and surrounding countryside. Four-Poster & Superior Bedrooms: Sumptuously decorated, boasting romantic charm, there are seven sumptuously decorated Four-Poster bedrooms and two Superior bedrooms for guests to choose from. All the Four-Poster and Superior bedrooms offer comfort and space, along with superb views of the rolling countryside. All but one of these rooms are located on the first floor and enjoy towering high ceilings. The Rowton Suite: This magnificent Georgian Gothic room is the most imposing bedroom our hotel has to offer, and is usually given to our honeymooning couples. Overlooking the front lawns, it has a majestic four-poster bed, and a massive Jacobean fireplace, which pre-dates the room, and is carved with dragons which are rumoured to bring good fortune to all who stay there. The Cedar Room: A spacious traditional room, it has a simple Arts and Crafts four-poster bed and an atmosphere of calm. From the window is the best view of our ancient cedar tree for which it is named. The Melverly Room: This small double room is a little jewel with black velvet and orange silk hangings. From the cushioned window seat, you will see the gardens, the turret wall and the Linden Belvedere. The Alberbury Suite: Light and elegant, we think this room was once the bed-chamber of Lady Caroline Lyster. It has a canopied four-poster bed, a sparkling crystal chandelier, and is decorated in shades of cream and deep rose. From the tall sash windows there are the most perfect views of the whole garden and lime Tree Avenue. The Avenue Room: Here we have a pretty twin room with an unusual collection of furniture from the nineteen thirties. As its name suggests, the lime avenue is visible from the windows. The Baldwin Room: Another quiet spacious room, the Baldwin is made elegant by its superb French bed which is skilfully carved with roses, and which dictates the simple Francophile theme of the decorating. The Oak Room: This charming room sits in one of the castle turrets, which makes it an interesting shape. It's a favourite with our guests who love the heavy oak carved four-posted bed with its cream fur quilt, giving all a slight mood of medieval splendour. The Yockleton Room: In this very traditional room, the great oak carved four-poster bed stands in its own alcove, perhaps remembering the draughts of ages past. Now of course it's warm and comfortable with red hangings and low lighting. It overlooks the gardens. The Leighton Suite: Grand and traditional, this room with its huge four-poster bed has gravitas a plenty. The fabrics here are magnificent, in dark red silk damasks and shimmering golds, and the chandelier is a glowing basket of richly painted metal flowers. All rooms and suites feature: fully equipped bathroom with bath and shower, television, direct dial telephone, complimentary wireless internet access and such thoughtful extras as trouser press, hair-dryer, mineral water, and excellent beverage making facilities. |
