Description: Donna CarmelaA charming, late eighteenth-century house and a contemporary, minimal interior design are the main strenght of the Donna Carmela boutique hotel. Blessed by the warmth of the volcano Etna at its backdrop and the blue waters of the Ionian sea in front of it, Donna Carmela is also surrounded by the pristine Mediterranean and subtropical plants of Piante Faro's Nursery. Donna Carmela provides 16 beautiful suites, each one with different, unique style and an exclusive Dépendence for a bit of classy relax. Another milestone of the boutique hotel is its restaurant, "La Cucina di Donna Carmela", which delights its guests with the traditional recipes of Sicily revisited according the new trends and tastes.In 2015 Donna Carmela goes further and launches the new Natural Lodges. These are eight little dwellings where nature and contemporary living coexist, breaking the limits of interior and exterior. Lodges differ from Donna Carmela's main building because of their more private position just within the nursery. Moreover they can count on precious materials, such as mother-of-pearl and volcanic sand and new building techniques which aim for energy efficiency and a reduction of negative effects on environment. With a strong visual impact, they amaze with the beauty of the interior designs and a full environmental sustainability, according to which they have been conceived. Placed in the very heart of a nursery specialized in Mediterranean plants, DonnaCarmela was born in 2009, in a 19th century Sicilian house that has been refurbished in full respect of the original but given all the modern comforts. Elegantly refined, the building dominates the ten thousand square meters nursery garden. Here everyone may enjoy a guided tour to discover the hundreds of scents and varieties of Mediterranean plants. It is also possible to admire a private collection of subtropical plants. The courtyards in lava paving, the ancient cistern and river pebbles, the well-stocked wine cellar and the swimming surrounded by secular olive trees, the comfortable spaces designed to relax and the quiet reading room, the wide halls and ample dining room: all this has been designed to make your stay exceptional. Donna Carmela is only few kilometers away from the mount Etna and a few steps from the Ionian sea. Dépendance: In the heart of the Company's nursery park, the Dependance is located about 500 mt away from the main building of DonnaCarmela, in a place offering the highest privacy and absolute tranquility. It is composed by bedroom, kitchen, living room, bathroom, small terrace with pergola made with sicilian roof tiles and a small Jacuzzi pool. Lodges: New addition for the 2015 season is the 8 new 45 sqm. Lodges, all of them surrounded by the greenery and equipped with a 15 sqm. Terrace, 4 of them with a 8 sqm. small pool. The lodges, deep in the tropical greenery, have been built adopting bio-architectural solutions making them perfectly integrated into the nursery surrounding them and highly eco-friendly. Two of them offer a garden view and can accommodate up to four people, while the other six are all with sea-view, they can accommodate up to three people and 4 of them are also equipped with small salted water pools. These vineyards between Solicchiata and Passopisciaro on the northern side of the volcano in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia were bought by Donna Carmela in 2006 and all grow Nerello Mascalese, the vine that produces the most appreciated wines in this area. The wine-making is done in a well-equipped cellar in Mascali, the area of origin of the Nerello Mascalese, only a few kilometers away from Donna Carmela. The name of the wine, Pietradolce - Archineri Etna Doc, comes from the place where it is produced and is born from the passion and commitment of the Faro family. It is characterized by its ruby-red color, red berry scents with mineral notes, and by the complexity, persistence and elegant tannin it offers the palate. Botanical Gardens: Relaxing, wining and dining, is not the only thing they offer. A little lower down the mountain side, between the Ionic coast and the first hills, discover the best environment for Mediterranean plants to flourish, where Piante Faro created the biggest nursery in Europe. Here plants develop into unrepeatable shapes and colors. Donna Carmela gardens feature Abutilon, Agave, Ficus, Cistus, Opuntiae, and ornamental Citrus plants.
