Description: Temple HouseTemple House is neither an inn nor a hotel, but rather a family owned country house on a 1200 acre estate nearly surrounding Temple House Lake. With ancestors who have lived here since 1665, the Temple House owners have a long history. The present house was redesigned and refurbished in 1864, retaining its old atmosphere with turf and log fires and some canopied beds.Spend a relaxing vacation hiking through the woods and bogs or fishing for pike in one of the boats on Temple House lake and enjoy your catch for dinner. Situated in Yeats Country close to Lough Gill, Parkes Castle and Lissadell House, Temple House is within easy reach of many archaeological sites (5000+ B.C); Bronze Age graves, Dolmens, Stone circles, Ring forts and many other sites. Connemara, Mayo, South Donegal and Fermanagh are within an easy day's drive. County Sligo has riding stables, well known golf courses, magnificent mountain scenery, lakes, waterfalls and miles of beautiful beaches. End the day chatting to the other guests round the fire or in a local pub, enjoying the traditional Irish music sessions and set or ceile dancing. Surrounding the lake there are beautiful dense woods and a promontory fort on the eastern shore, and several Crannogs in the lake. Herons nest in the beech trees and there are Pine martin in the woods. Otters play on the shore and ducks, pheasant, swans, kingfishers, crested grebes and peregrine falcon are among over 100 birds seen here. There are people available to assist with carrying bags. There are no disabled facilities. Children: are welcome. Activities: Swimming is possible in the peaty waters of the lake. Boats are provided for fishing for pike and other coarse fish, Brown trout, Rainbow trout, Salmon, Grilse and Sea fishing can be arranged for you when you stay at Temple House. There is also shooting available. Local sporting activities include riding schools and trekking, game, coarse and sea fishing, golf, hill walking, bird watching and boating on Temple House Lake. No pets. |
