Croatia's Hvar is the largest of the Adriatic islands. Located off the coast of Dalmatie, this small paradise flanked by the Pakleni Islands, is said to enjoy the most hours of sunshine in the entire Adriatic.

The white sand beaches and pristine waters are dreamlike. More shining illustrations include Stari to the southeast, Palmizan to the west, and the southern Zavala. They exude a Mediterranean landscape of pine forests and aromas of rosemary and lavender (the island is a great producer of this exceptional plant). Ancient medieval paths that cross the island lead you to charming villages like Velo Grablje and fascinating enclaves.

The small town of Hvar is enchanting with old Venetian villas, and its Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The 16th century Cathedral and also the Old Theater deserves a visit. Being more than 400 years old, it is the longest-running public theater in Europe. The Spanish Fort from the 16th century is a landmark in the city. Another fort, that of Napoleon, built during the beginning of the 19th century, marks the highest point in the city and features magnificent views.

Stari Grad Plain, in the center of the island, gives its name to a unique landscape that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the island of Hvar you can savor a Mediterranean cuisine with its own special flavor. Try gregada , based on seafood and potatoes, and pasticada , with marinated beef. The island is accessed by ferry or catamaran from Split or Dubrovnik.

Riva - Hvar Yacht Harbour Hotel is a new luxury boutique hotel on the waterfront of the beautiful old town of Hvar on the island of the same name. The Riva Hotel opened in 2006 in a wonderful turn-of-the-century building. Many of the Riva's original features have been preserved and beautifully blended with contemporary chic interiors.
