Enjoying a fabulous location, right before the Salcombe's beautiful South Sands beach, South Sands is situated in one of the town's most emblematic properties. After a chequered history and a number of changes of ownership, this delightful property was rescued by its present owners in 2008. After a painstaking and thorough renovation, it reopened in May of 2010, and now offers boutique accommodation and fine cuisine in a matchless beachfront setting.

As befits a historic property that is located beside the old lifeboat station, in a town that is renowned for its seafaring history, South Sands features nautical themes throughout the hotel. Rooms and suites have been named after sailing vessels popular in this charming seafaring town, and have a New England-style décor. Starting with the little Optimist, and continuing through Enterprises, Yawls, Dragons and right up to the majestic J-Class, rooms vary in size and specification, but all are comfortable and fully equipped with all modern amenities.

South Sands is home to the stunning Beachside Restaurant, where guests and visitors can enjoy contemporary British cuisine prepared with the finest locally sourced produce from the South Devon and West Country land and sea. Large and airy, the restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto a delightful decked terrace, with spectacular views of the estuary.

Optimist Rooms - Small Double:
A terrific entry level craft, perfect for learning, with a valley view. All of these rooms are rear-facing, with two rooms on the ground floor (one of them with disabled facilities). They all have a flat-screen TV, DVD player, iPod docking station, tea/coffee, a fridge, free water, a dressing table and an en suite bathroom. The disabled room has a walk-in shower.
Enterprise Rooms - Standard Double:
A vessel of elegance and comfort with a valley view. These first and second-floor rooms feature an en suite bathroom, a dressing table and a TV. One double bed. room size 20 sq m.
Yawl Rooms:
Generous and beautiful with partial sea views. These are larger rooms situated at the front of the hotel on the first or second floors. They feature either partial or full sea views, a Juliet balcony and an en suite bathroom.
Dragon Rooms:
Large and sumptuous with fabulous sea views. These rooms are furnished with a Super King sized bed, two large bespoke Robert Langford chairs, an ottoman, desk/dressing table and a chair and has a Juliet balcony with stunning views over the beach and estuary. The ensuite provides both a slipper bath and large walk in shower. 
J Class Rooms:
The J-Class rooms are the most opulent rooms in the hotel. Pure luxury.These are large rooms with two slipper baths and a fabulous sea view. They come with a Ceasar bed 8ft wide, and a full balcony and 2 juliet balconies. The en-suite bathroom features a walk-in shower. There is also a seating area on the balcony. Additional amenties include bath robes & slippers. One extra fold-out bed or baby-cot on request.
Two-Bedroom Beach Suites:
For guests looking for something more luxurious than the J-Class rooms, the hotel offers five spacious Beach Suites. The Beach Suite have two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other with twin or king-size beds. Each bedroom has en-suite bathroom facilities. The suites also feature a living room with a sofa-bed, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. With a balcony and partial sea views, they are ideal for groups of friends or families.
