The splendid Pont d'Avignon, which mysteriously stops in the middle of the Rhone River, highlights the history of this charming city in the south of France, in the Provence region.
Its Cathedral Notre-Dame des Domes, originally from the 12th century, the Petit Palais de Avignon, and the imposing Papal Palace from the 1300's with countless rooms to visit (up to seven popes resided here), corroborate its historical dimension. The 14th century walled enclosure extends more than 4 km and has up to 16 old access doors and 40 towers. Because of its greatness and historical weight, the whole center of Avignon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
