History and nature merge in this region in the east of France which borders Switzerland. Considered one of the greenest areas in Europe, it has well-preserved lush beech and oak forests. Discover the Jura Massif mountain range and the beautiful scenery of the Haut-Jura Natural Park and the Herrison waterfalls, at its peak when the thaw arrives. If you go up the Ballon d'Alsace, a legendary cycling mountain because of its link to the history of the Tour de France, you will enjoy dreamlike views over the Los Vosgos massif and far beyond.
The Pays de Lacs, in the triangle between Lons-le-Saunier, Morez, and Pontarlier, is a paradise of rivers and lakes.

The copious historical and architectural legacy is reflected in cozy medium-sized cities that are a delight to discover. In the capital of the region, Besançon, the imposing citadel, built in the 17th century by Vauban, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In Ronchamp, entering the chapel designed by Le Corbusier is a sublime experience of twentieth century religious architecture. The wine capital of Jura is Arbois. Visit other charming villages: Dole, Lons-le-Sunier or Vesoul. In winter, stations such as Rousses and Métabief in Jura are ideal for cross-country skiing. |
