Capital of the Costa Azul, Nice is synonymous with good living. The emblematic "English stroll" was defined in the nineteenth century by elegant villas and later by palatial buildings, hotels and casinos making it a luxury holiday destination blessed by the Mediterranean coastal breeze.
But Nice also preserves folk traditions. Every day since ancient times, in the Cours Saleya square, the Flower Market is set up at six in the morning. It is one of the hallmarks of the city. Flowers, fruits and vegetables are sold from local producers. In the historic center, its vibrant environment offers snacks in lively cafés and restaurants. Mondays are reserved for antiques.

The fascinating old town of Nice features ocher, yellow and reddish facades with gray-blue shutters. Another of its strengths is the Baroque religious architecture such as the impressive Cathedral of Santa María and Santa Reparata. The Chapel of Mercy is considered a small treasure of that artistic period. The Marc-Chagall National Museum and the Matisse Museum safeguard the work of two 20th-century painting geniuses. From the old hilltop castle of Nice, you will enjoy a splendid view of the wide bay and promenade. Hotels with a lot of charm allow you to enjoy the particular marine atmosphere of Nice. |
