Description: Hotel Cortijo del MarquésLocated just 20 minutes from Granada with its world-famous Alhambra Palace, 50 minutes from the popular ski resort of Sierra Nevada and less than one hour from the Mediterranean coast, the exceptional location of the Cortijo del Marques makes it the perfect base for discovering the region of Andalucia. Come summer or winter, you can enjoy your favourite sports, or explore the region's rich cultural heritage. The history of the Cortijo del Marqués goes back to the 15th century. When it was converted into a hotel in 2010 the new owners strived to respect the original aspect and character of the estate wherever possible. There is the square patio with its cobblestones and central fountain; the old horse stables converted to a large dining and sitting room; the 300 square meter storehouse with stone walls and exposed wooden trusses; interior and exterior spaces to organise anything from weddings to art exhibits. The church and the large fortified tower complete the peaceful setting and the sound of water complements the serenity of every corner of the place. Amenities include rooms with fireplaces, wood burners, enormous bathtubs, high wooden ceilings; a refreshing pool surrounded by rose bushes; and finally an "horno árabe" or Spanish kiln. The rooms in the main house preserve the atmosphere of the early 1900's with furniture, beds, and lighting from that time period. On the other hand, the rooms around the patio, for example, in the old stable, dovecote, granary, and oil storage area have been converted to ample spaces designed with often unusual original elements.
