This small state in northern Europe is considered one of the most prosperous among the Baltic countries. And its inhabitants, the Lithuanians, have earned the reputation of being the Baltic Latinos because of their open and festive nature.
From Vilnius, capital of unquestionable beauty, it is easy to delve into the area. Kaunas, the second largest city of Lithuania, boasts a lovely old town. As the coastline facing the Baltic Sea is small, be sure to go to the Isthmus of Courland. It is a great experience. The narrow strip of land between the Baltic and Lake Curlandia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Most people live in Nida. For enthusiasts of house-museums, here is that of Thomas Mann, where the famous writer settled as a vacationer. In the Amber Museum you will learn about all the secrets of this Lithuanian star product.
The Curlandia region adds to the charm with fine sand beaches, stunning dune landscapes, pine forests and peaceful coastal villages. Klapeida is one of the main cities. It features a magnificent historic center of Germanic roots. Nature expands through the Kursiu Nerija National Park on the Nerija Peninsula. And the forests wrap around Druskininkai, an ideal destination for thermal baths next to Lake Druskonis. |
