The Hacienda San José is situated in the heart of the ancient Mayan province of Cehpech, whose capital was Motul, ruled by a halach uinic (true man) of the Pech dynasty. Known since 1665 as the estancia of Diego de Mendoza, a descendent of the conquistador Francisco de Montejo, The Hacienda Temozón produced livestock and maize. The cattle ranch Uayamón (SIC) was founded during the last decade of the XVIth Century, being then dedicated to the breeding of bovine and porcine cattle.
