Boasting a fabulous location on an exclusive sixteen hectare peninsula, Castle Hill Inn is situated in a spectacular 19th century mansion, originally built in 1875 for marine biologist Alexander Agassiz of Harvard University. A member of Relais & Châteaux since 2008, this fabulous property offers luxury boutique accommodation, fine cuisine and a fantastic range of activities and experiences in a unique waterfront setting.

One of the few properties in Rhode Island to have its own private beach, Castle Hill Inn us almost entirely surrounded by water, and offers a unique range of leisure activities on site or close by, including boating and water sports, cycling, board games, lawn games, yoga classes, or spa services at The Retreat wellness centre. Guests can charter the Hinckley yacht for private excursions, and the Mistress motor launch provides regular shuttle services to and from Newport. Other sights nearby include the Castle Hill Lighthouse, or the intimate Grace Kelly Beach.

Beach Cottages:
Perched on the sand dunes of our private beach, the Beach Cottages look upon a quiet New England cove. Watch the waves roll in from your porch and take a walk along the shoreline before retreating to the comforts of your seaside cottage. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. Located on our private beach front, approximately 230 metres away from the Agassiz Mansion, each Beach Cottage has a small wet bar with a sink, microwave, subzero fridge, and espresso maker. Each features one queen size bed and a small sitting area with a flat screen TV. Some cottages also offer a gas jet fireplace. Either the main entrance or additional French doors open onto a semi-private deck that overlooks the ocean and our private beach front. Heated floors complete the bathrooms in these units, which vary, offering either a whirlpool tub and shower combination, separate shower and tub, or a stand-up shower. Superior Beach Cottages offer additional space, while the Premier Beach Cottage is the only free-standing guestroom at Castle Hill. Standard: accommodates two guests. Harbor House:
The Harbor Houses offer some of the most intimate and cherished views on our property. The Harbor House rooms overlook a rocky enclave where actress Grace Kelly used to famously sneak down to the water's edge; a staircase was built so she could climb back up from her secluded hideaway. Today, Harbor House guests enjoy access to this ruggedly romantic New England refuge. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. Sitting on a cliff with panoramic views of Narragansett Bay this charming respite is sure to please. Each Harbor House features a queen size bed, gas jet fireplace, espresso maker, and fridge. Hardwood floors and custom décor complement the cozy setting. French doors open to a semi-private porch with Adirondack chairs and a view of the Newport Bridge. Accommodates two guests. Mary Walsh:
Located on the west end of the main mansion on the second floor, the Mary Walsh Room features a full view of Narragansett Bay. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. The Mary Walsh Room offers a king size bed with writing desk, and table and chairs, as well as a gas jet fireplace and hardwood floors. The bathroom overlooks the East Passage and features a two-person soaking tub and a separate glass and marble stand-up shower. Accommodates two guests. Room size approximately 30 square metres.
Rose:
The Rose Room is located on the second floor of the Agassiz Mansion, with a beautiful view of the Narragansett Bay. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. Renovated in January 2012, the Rose Room offers a gas jet fireplace, hardwood floors and panelling, writing desk, and a king size bed. The bathroom features a large whirlpool tub/shower combination in a custom marble bath. Accommodates two guests. Room size approximately 30 square metres.
Bridge:
The Bridge Room is located on the third floor of the Agassiz Mansion, with a beautiful view of the Narragansett Bay and Newport Bridge. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. Renovated in January 2012, the Bridge room offers a king size sleigh bed, and a chaise lounge by the gas jet fireplace. The bathroom offers an antique vanity, two person soaking tub and a separate glass and marble stand up shower. Accommodates two guests. Room size approximately 33 square metres.
Beach Houses:
The Beach Houses embody classic New England coastal charm. Perfectly positioned between our nature trails and private beach, guests can easily hike out to the lighthouse or lounge near the ocean just steps from their Newport, RI accommodations. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. Located steps away from the private beach front at one of the best places to stay in Newport, approximately 230 metres away from the Agassiz Mansion, the Beach Houses feature a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and feature a king size bed. Each unit has a living room area with leather furniture and a queen size pullout sofa, a gas jet fireplace, and beautiful French doors that open onto a semi-private deck overlooking our private beach front. These rooms offer radiant heated floors as well as a fully equipped galley kitchen with a two burner stove, small fridge, microwave, and espresso maker. The bathroom offers a two-person stand-up glass and marble shower, along with a two-person whirlpool tub. Superior Beach Houses offer the added privacy of an end unit, as well as wrap around stunning Newport, Rhode Island beach views. Chalet:
Located above the event space in the historic Chalet, the Chalet Suite looks over the Chalet Tent to the Narragansett Bay, while the Chalet Room has an exclusive view of Castle Hill Cove. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. The bedroom of the Chalet Suite holds an elegant queen platform bed beside a gas jet fireplace. The adjacent sitting room complete with its own wet bar, offers a double pull out sofa. A cast iron double whirlpool tub and separate marble shower in bestow the final touches of luxury. In the Chalet Room, the hardwood floor, oriental carpet and queen platform bed create a graceful retreat. A cast iron double whirlpool and shower combination in the custom bathroom invites the weary traveler to relax in refined elegance true to Castle Hill Inn. The Chalet Suite and Chalet Room can be connected to create a two-bedroom suite, but they are primarily offered as separate accommodations. Agassiz Room:
The Mrs. Agassiz Room is located on the second floor of the Agassiz Mansion with a spectacular panoramic view of the Narragansett Bay. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. Renovated in January 2011, the Mrs. Agassiz Room features a love-seat and chairs in front of the bay window. The bedroom also offers a king size bed and gas jet fireplace. The bathroom offers a second fireplace as well as a two-person soaking tub and a separate glass and marble stand-up shower. Accommodates two guests. Room size approximately 40 square metres.
Turret Suite:
Located on the third floor of the Agassiz Mansion, this is a bi-level suite in our historically renovated turret with a panoramic view of the Narragansett Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Castle Hill Lighthouse. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. The Turret Suite offers a king size bed on the first floor along with a gas jet fireplace, hardwood floors and an oversized soaking tub overlooking the ocean. The bathroom features a large marble walk-in shower with a full front glass door, an oversized flat designer shower head and separate body sprayer heads. A custom wood spiral staircase leads to the second level where a circular sitting room features a working telescope and high-powered binoculars with accompanying books on astrology and local points of interest. This room offers a 30 degree view of the surrounding land and waters. Accommodates two guests. Room size approximately 45 square metres.
Master:
Located on the second floor of the Agassiz Mansion, the Master Bedroom has a full view of the East Passage and the Narragansett Bay. All visits include a full gourmet breakfast and exclusive, guest-only afternoon tea. The Master Bedroom features custom décor, a gas jet fireplace, writing desk, sitting area, and a king size sleigh bed. The bathroom has an oversized whirlpool tub along with a glass and marble stand up shower. This room can accommodate a third guest on an air mattress. Lighthouse Suite:
Located on the third floor, the Lighthouse Suite is one of the most spacious accommodations in the Agassiz Mansion. It offers distant ocean views and limited views of the East Passage and the Narragansett Bay. The Light House Suite offers a bedroom and sitting area, separated by French doors. The bedroom offers a king size bed, a gas jet fireplace, and an oversized soaking tub overlooking the grounds. The sitting area offers a queen size pull-out sofa, circular table with four chairs, and an additional television. The bathroom features a glass and marble stand up shower with steam options.
