Dining: The fish restaurant 't Pakhuus - which has a 1 knife and fork Michelin rating and is mentioned in Specialbite and Gault Millau - serves both classical dishes and its own creations, beautifully presented and carefully prepared by a motivated and hospitable team with a heart for service. The kitchen is well-known as creative, pure and appetizing. The varying seasonal menu with an extensive wine list follows the changes in the land, wetlands and sea. Fresh fish from the North Sea constitutes the basis of many dishes, but there are also meat dishes such as the world-renown Texel lamb. Besides dinner, you may also enjoy a simple or sumptuous luncheon. Housed on the ground floor of the recently restored historic warehouse right on the harbour, you are welcomed into an authentic and stylish ambiance where history reaches back farther than that of the building itself. For more than thirty-five years this has been the spot for eating fresh fish. Enjoy its soothing warmth in the beautiful conservatory while having a bite or a drink. The area: The Wadden Sea and its islands have recently been nominated for World Heritage status because of, among other things, its unique wetland ecosystem. Texel shares these qualities with the other Wadden Islands, but adds its own flavour with its bustling agrarian activities with the typical building style of Noord-Holland, the characteristic flat sheep sheds and the unique earthen walls between the parcels of land. The island also distinguishes itself by its convenient connection with the heart of the country, the Randstad. More than 100 kilometres of cycling routes take you to the most beautiful locations. Nature reserves like the Slufter, Muy, Hors and the Schorren are examples, but there are also the wetlands and the cosy, picturesque village centres. June features a catamaran race around the island with participants from all over the world while in September the restaurants show off their culinary capabilities, and then blues bands come to Den Burg in October.
