Lapped by the Baltic Sea in the north and protected by the mountains of the Sudetes and the Carpathians to the south, this Central European country cherishes a splendid historical legacy with sixteen locations of great beauty classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Among them is the historical center of Warsaw, capital of Poland. Rebuilt after World War II, this is a city whose streets testify to the intense history of the last century.
Krakow, the second largest city, is the pulsing cultural and artistic heart of the country with an exceptional medieval old town. The port beauty of Gdansk coexists with a shipyard past where the Soliarnosc labor union was forged.
|
Nature in its purest form is yet another of the great treasures of this country. In the Pomeranian region, Slowinski National Park is fascinating with its quick moving dunes, like natural slides. The rolling hill landscape of Masovia houses the Radom Village Museum, an open-air center with more than fifty old wooden buildings. The “Region of a thousand lakes”, as Masuria is known, includes the spectacular Bialowieza forest.
For ski fans, Zakopane in the Tatras Mountains, is a highly desired destination because of the quality of its slopes and the picturesque wooden houses from the early twentieth century. |

The "Wentzl" hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful tenement houses of the Market Square. The 15th century Cellaris's family tenement called it "Under the Painting" because of a mural facade depicting the Virgin Mary and Child. There is a legend which tells us that the author of this mural paid his debts for meals and drinks to the owner by way of the mural. In 1792 John Wentzl founded the Wentzl Restaurant in this building, which receives wide recognition today and it has the reputation of being the best restaurant in Cracow. Many outstanding Guests (politicians and artists) are regular guests there.
