Located on the Baltic Sea coast in the north of Poland, this is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. The 17th century Fountain of Neptune has become one of the symbols of Gdansk. Set in the Mercado Largo, the hub of the city, it acts as a meeting point. Here we also find the monument to Daniel Fahrenheit who was born in Gdansk. It honors the physical creator of the temperature scale that bears his name.
Along the Ruta Real, the old flamenco-style houses of rich merchants and bourgeois sparkle with numerous windows, a symbol of power at the time. it is between two historic 17th century entryways: the Green Gate and the Golden Gate.

Another wonderful place is the picturesque Mariacka street. Once populated by goldsmiths, today it is dedicated to the amber trade, with a specific museum. Gdansk is the largest port city in Poland. On the banks of the Motlawa River is the ancient wooden crane, once the largest in medieval Europe. The walk along the pier is very atmophereic. In its shipyards began the famous labor union, Solidarnosc, whose action was fundamental in the fall of the communist regime. A visit to the European Solidarity Center illuminates the relevance of the historical moment.
Capital of the Pomeranian Province, in this region you can enjoy fascinating places like the Slowinski National Park and its quick moving dunes, which are like natural slides. |
