In the interior of Poland, a hundred kilometers south of the capital Warsaw, Radom is an inviting medium sized city which reflects the history of this Central European country.
Both its post-industrial character and the medieval legacy paint the picture of an intense city of contrasts. The original churches of the thirteenth century, such as that of San Wenceslao, give way to the elegant nineteenth-century neoclassical buildings of the bourgeois who boosted the industry of the country. Many are concentrated on the Ulica Stefana Żeromskiego promenade, where bars with terraces invite you to take a break. The Mleczna River furrows the city as does the large Stary Ogród Park, designed at the beginning of the 19th century.
|
The Market Square, Rynek, with a large willow tree, houses the Jacek Malczewski Museum, dedicated to the well-known Polish symbolist painter who came from this town. In the center Sztuki Współczesnej you can get to know the contemporary art of the country.
Radom is located in the historical region of Mazovia, with magnificent natural sites such as the Kampinos National Park. The immediate landscape environment features smooth and rolling hills. Here we find the Radom Village Museum, an open-air center that brings together more than fifty old wooden buildings. One highlight is the Church of Santa Dorota de Wolanw from the eighteenth century with baroque paintings inside. |
