The capital of Romania uniquely unfolds with a mixture of splendid architecture, the result of a flourishing period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as well as the legacy of the communist era. The Romanian Parliament Palace is considered the largest civil building in the world, built under the megalomaniac mandate of Nicolae Ceacescu. The Boulervardul Unirii or the Revolution Square were other symbols of communist power.
At the same time, the neoclassical architecture of the exclusive avenue of Victory (Calea Victoriei), which originated in the 17th century, earned the city the nickname of “the little Paris”.

To capture the daily vitality of Bucharest there is nothing better than walking through its historic center with lively terraces and shops. Orthodox churches are another one of their treasures, such as the church of Sfantul Anton and the Stavrolopeos Monastery. On a hill stands the Orthodox Cathedral, the most important in Romania, as well as the Patriarchate Palace, residence of the highest ecclesiastical authority in the country.
Bucharest is one of those cities that surprises you with each new discovery. Do not miss the Romanian Athenaeum in neoclassical style. The National Museum of Art of Romania, installed in the Royal Palace of Bucharest, is ideal to learn about Romanian medieval and modern art. |
