Description: Crown and CastleEnjoying a magnificent location, just footsteps away from Orford castle, the Crown and Castle is set in a carefully restored and maintained historic inn, reputedly built on the site of a 13th century hostelry. This charming property offers cosy accommodation and delicious, unpretentious food in a truly relaxing, unstressed atmosphere.Ideally placed in the heart of this beautiful village, the Crown and Castle is just a few miles south of Aldeburgh, and close to some of the most beautiful landscapes on the Suffolk coast. Orford Ness and Havergate Island are a accessible by the ferries from the quay in the village. Good, honest food is one of the raisons d'être of the Crown and Castle, and the hotel's Triniy Bistro is the proud holder of 2 AA Rosettes as well as a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. Consciously unpretentious, cuisine is based on the region's wonderful local produce, sourced from local, artesan suppliers, farms and dairies. Vegetarian, vegan and special diet menus are available on request. Guests can also expect a fine selection of excellently priced wines from the hotel's carefully stocked cellar. Type of rooms: Crown and CastleGood House Doubles:The two Good House doubles (5 and 6) are the smallest rooms in the hotel. They are at the front of the hotel, with pleasant views looking over the lane to neighbouring gardens. Completely redecorated, they come with brand new, Hypnos (top-of-the-range) queen-size beds and small wall-hung digital televisions offering Freeview channels and built-in DVD players. The bathrooms are small but have been completely redesigned and refurbished, and feature a walk-in shower. Both these rooms are ideal for single occupancy but are also fine for couples who just want comfortable, no-frills accommodation. Best Garden Doubles/Twins: The hotel's Best Garden doubles/twins (20 - 29) are newly refurbished, spacious, and feature a semi-private terrace on the lawn side, with a simple table and two chairs. The garden rooms are only 25 - 60 yards from the main building, and there are umbrellas in all rooms in case of rain. The rooms come with king-size zipped and linked Hypnos or Vi-spring beds, except two which are twin-bedded, and all have a glass-topped table and two tub chairs. They have digital televisions, offering Freeview channels, and built-in DVD players. There is also an excellent DVD library. Tea and coffee-making facilities (including fresh milk) are in the rooms but guests are always welcome to come to the bar for tea or coffee. All the bathrooms are en-suite with power showers over a full-sized, glass-screened bath. Best Garden Twin: All the garden rooms are newly refurbished, a decent size, and particularly joyous in the summer because each has a semi-private terrace on the lawn side (with a simple table and two chairs). However, that does not mean they are not nice in the winter because they are all well-heated, so have no fear. All the rooms have two single Hypnos or Vi-spring beds, and all have a glass-topped table and two tub chairs. New, flat-screen televisions with built-in DVD are in all the rooms. Best House Double Estuary View: All of the best house doubles are on the first floor of the main building. They offer fabulous views towards the estuary and sea, and come with large en-suite bathrooms with full-sized baths with power showers above them. The rooms are furnished in similarly modern style, using Osborne & Little fabrics, and all have king-size zipped and linked Hypnos or Vi-spring beds. Most have new flat screen televisions with either built-in or separate DVD players. Best Terrace Double: The two Best Terrace doubles (30 and 31) both with king-size beds. They have digital televisions, offering Freeview channels, and built-in DVD players. They were built in late 2012 and can, if needed, interconnect through a common lobby, and so are ideal for family used. Room 30 faces the garden rooms and has its own little brick 'apron' for sitting outside. It also has a large walk-in shower (no bath). Room 31 faces the castle, and has a tiny walled garden. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and a bath. Suite: The lovely suite is located on the first floor of the old stable block. It has its own little balcony where guests can sit and enjoy distant views of the river Ore, the Ness and the North Sea beyond. This suite has a separate sitting area, and is perfect for a celebration, honeymoon, or just plain self-indulgence. Access is from the ground floor, up a private staircase and into the sitting room. The separate toilet and bathroom are off a wide corridor that leads to the bedroom. As well as the luxurious walk-in shower, the bathroom also boasts a full-length Happy D bath. Guests are kindly informed that the suite has sloping ceilings and might require caution from especially tall guests.
