Located in the south-west of the United Kingdom, its peninsular rocky landscape and settings of legends like that of King Arthur, have turned this area into a mythical land.
With a length of 200 kilometers, Cornwall is lapped by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In this historic county of England, fishing has been an integral part of the modus vivendi of its inhabitants, along with storms and extreme weather conditions. Today it is wonderful to walk through old fishing villages such as Padstow and Fowey. The great waves at beaches such as Newquay have become a mecca of surfing pilgrimage. And the rugged cliffs of Mullion are a gift for the visitor.
|
In the Castle of Tintagel, to the north, is the medieval legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Another landmark on the peninsula is the Godrevy lighthouse, built in the 19th century, in the bay of St. Ives, a unique enclave. The romantic beauty of the maritime landscapes pervades everything. Take, for example, the island St. Michel's Mount, crowned by the medieval abbey. Linked to the town of Marazion by a stone road, it is passable only when the tide is low.
Charming little ports like Mevagissey and St. Mawes, host boat trips along the coast. Magnificent boutique hotels are the crowning jewel. |
