In the Southwest of the United Kingdom we find one of the outstanding counties of the idyllic English countryside. Somerset has a magnificent historical and cultural legacy among the green and undulating hills dotted with dreamy villages.
A couple of hours from London, Bath is the county's most famous town because of its ancient thermal aqua-therapy tradition, active since the 18th century. The Gothic cathedral of Wells, with 300 sculptures on the west facade, is an incredible work of lace in stone. The palace of the bishops of both towns and the surrounding environment of six hectares of gardens, is yet another jewel. The charm of Frome includes its weekly historical markets, taking place since the 11th century.
|
Glastonbury, in addition to its former abbey, is well known for the Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, the most famous among the alternative genre. The spell of Somerset reaches the coast. From Porlock Hill you see the splendid bay. The natural beauty of the National Park of Commerce includes wild forests, woods and also crops.
The legendary Cheddar cheese has its beginnings here. Since the 12th century, it has been cured in the caves of this town. In Somerset, luxury hotels have been set up in 18th and 19th century mansions, and also in old stone farms, restored with much charm. |
